Thoppukaranam aka Super Brain Yoga

I recently came across a video in You Tube titled "Super Brain Yoga" which left me stupefied as it was nothing but the Thoppukaranam we do everyday in front of Lord Ganesha, the bestower of Buddhi (Intelligence) called Dvau Bhuja Karnam in Sanskrit. Not many of us would have realized that the "Thoppukaranam" we have been practicing from time immemorial synchronises the brain literally increasing our Buddhi.

But, this is what the western world has rediscovered. Coming back to the video, the instructor credited the origin of "Super Brain Yoga" to Chinese acupuncture and the great Indian Rishis adding that it was a great exercise for people belonging to any age group to increase the functioning of their brain.

Super brain Yoga is being taught to students with learning disabilities like autism and dyslexia in  Western countries and positive developments were seen in all the practitioners as per a telecast by CBS2 television.

If there is something that should be learnt from this,it is that all the teachings of Ancient India are based on scientific knowledge of our great sages but nowadays,we do not give much thought to it.

In olden days, children studying in gurukals were made to do Thoppukaranam  as a form of punishment to reform their minds which literally transformed them. Having worked in a school, I now feel that perhaps this is the missing link which has dissappeared from our classrooms. This ancient practice is much better than corporal punishments and harsh scoldings to help children who are distracted and inattentive also.
