The "Fever" Nut


Caesalpinia Bonducella is commonly known as "Fever Nut" due to it's anti - pyretic properties.It is  found  in hot countries like India and Sri Lanka.Ayurvedic practitioners use the powdered seeds of the Fever Nut to treat fevers persisting for a long time,especially Malaria.





This plant belongs to a species of flowering plants called "Caesalpinioideae",also known as the Peacock Flower Family. It grows upto a maximum height of 20ft and has yellow flowers which are very fragrant. The bark, root and leaves of this plant are used to prepare various herbal concotations.


Fever nut is called "Kuberakshi" in Sanskrit, literally meaning "The eye of Kubera", the Lord of Wealth since the seeds resemble eyeballs.It is known as "Kallarchikai" in Tamil and is widely used as a home remedy to treat swellings, fight infections and to strengthen the immune system. It is also used to treat liver problems, intestinal worms, toothache, diabetes and asthma.
